Die Ausstellungen der Zentralbibliothek im Foyer des Opernhauses Zürich werden jeweils eine Saison lang präsentiert. Sie sind während der Öffnungszeiten des Opernhauses frei zugänglich.
Anschliessend sind sie ein weiteres Jahr in der «Musikgalerie im Predigerchor» zu sehen. Die Exponate befinden sich dann im Treppenaufgang zum Lesesaal der Musikabteilung.
Memorable days in Zurich’s musical life during the 19th century
This exhibition sheds light on some highlights of Zurich’s musical life in the 19th century. They include the musical festivities marking the inauguration of the Aktientheater (1834) and Stadttheater (1891), the old Tonhalle in the Kornhaus (1867) and the new Tonhalle, the Zurich version of “Trocadéro” (1891), as well as exceptional musical performances such as Richard Wagner’s three concerts featuring opera excerpts in May 1853 – the very first “Wagner Festival” – and the 1881 première of Johannes Brahms’s “Nänie” conducted by the composer himself,
