Understanding the world
The new geographical discoveries that took place around the year 1500 spurred a new interest in understanding the world. At the courts of the nobility, art chambers were created and filled with cosmographic objects and books. Their quintessential manifestation was the globe. The exhibition also recognises the work of Swiss cosmographers whose work has been unjustly neglected.
