Zurich film goes Wikipedia
The Zentralbibliothek Zürich celebrated a première as part of its strategic focus on citizen science: its first ever Wikipedia edit-athon.
Wikipedia writing workshop
The earliest known film produced in Zurich shows the national shooting competition of 1907. In the 112 years since, Zurich has amassed its own cinematic heritage.
Much of it can be found in the collections of the Zentralbibliothek Zürich: bequests from actors and film-makers, the collection of Swiss screenplays, books, magazines, newspapers and DVDs. We held a writing workshop with members of the public to create Wikipedia entries for some of the city’s movie history.
Following a kick-off event to provide an introduction to the topic, the ZB provided workstations as well as a selection of books, DVDs and databases. Staff and active Wikipedia contributors brought their know-how to bear in helping the participants. A total of 16 new articles were written, and six existing ones were revised.
This project falls within the Zentralbibliothek Zürich’s strategic focus on citizen science.
