June to September 2018. Come rain, come shine: for this ZürichFenster accompanying the exhibition “Comical Zurich” we have gathered together a large number of cartoons from our collection. If you are looking for literature on the city and canton, you will find the best of Zurich in the Zurich Bibliography.

April to June 2018. Zurich 50 years ago: this ZürichFenster takes you back to 1968, as young people rebel against rigid authorities, institutions and outdated values. At the end of June, Zurich sees the “Globus riot”. Drop by and learn more: until the end of May you can browse through books, view images and reports from the press at the time, and watch a film shot in the midst of the street battles. January to April 2018. ZürichFenster marking the 100th birthday of Hanny Fries (1918–2009): Born into a family of artists, Hanny Fries grew up in the Zurich district of Seefeld and studied art in Geneva. From 1954 to 1983 she produced drawings depicting activities at the Schauspielhaus Zürich. Her work offers an insight into little-known corners of the city. Until the end of March 2018 you can view books and drawings by and about Hanny Fries from the Zentralbibliothek collection in the Turicensia Lounge. Via the touchscreen you can discover information about her life and work and view a documentary by Peter Münger and Valerie Fischer. December 2017. Discover something new about Zurich every day in the ZürichFenster Advent calendar. Each day, the interactive calendar offers up another fascinating snippet from our Special Collection, such as a 100-year-old biscuit recipe, a Christmas song or a cartoon about Santa Claus. Suitably decked out for the season, the Turicensia Lounge also offers books with Christmas and winter themes. For seasonal literature see the Zurich Bibliography.

September to December 2017. To coincide with the Zurich Film Festival (28 September to 8 October 2017) and the International Short Film Festival in Winterthur (7 to 12 November 2017) this ZürichFenster, which runs until the end of November 2017, is devoted to “Zurich in film”. We’re presenting a selection of publications on the topic. The touchscreen offers interactive content including posters, trailers and information about Zurich film festivals. You can also browse through a virtual version of the publication by the “Swiss Committee for Cinema Reform” from the early 20th century – a real gem from our collection. This ZürichFenster is accompanied by images of Zurich cinemas by photographer Oliver Lang. And of course, for more on this topic you can also see the Zurich Bibliography.

July to August 2017. The canton and city of Zurich have a long tradition as a location for numerous businesses and companies, including everything from delicatessens, shops selling colonial goods and confectioners to factories and global conglomerates. The current ZürichFenster comprises a selection from the Turicensia Special Collection including commemorative publications, portraits and other publications on traditional Zurich companies. We have also gone interactive, with videos and podcasts on the topic that you can access via the touchscreen. And you will find more literature on this topic in the Zurich Bibliography.

April to June 2017. The Zentralbibliothek Zürich maintains a publishers’ book archive for certain Zurich publishers, documenting their work and development as vehicles for culture in the city. The archive grows by around 1,200 titles a year. Publishers’ archives are also preserved in the Zentralbibliothek’s Manuscript Department, where you will find letters, manuscripts, documentation, publishers’ programmes, brochures and advertising material. From time to time, the ZürichFenster in the Turicensia Lounge presents individual publishers and their publications, which you are welcome to view and read on site. February to March 2017. The theme of the current ZürichFenster, which runs until the end of March, is “Living in Zurich”, a presentation of books on the topic and images of the city from an airship by photographer Juliet Haller. The documentary “Zürich – Baukultur in einer weltoffenen Stadt”, produced by the City of Zurich Urban Development Department, takes you on an exciting journey through the city. October 2016 to January 2017. Marking the opening of the Turicensia Lounge, this ZürichFenster turns the spotlight on the local dialect, with “Züri liest Züritüütsch”. A selection of publications on the subject are on show until mid-November 2016. Complementing the ZürichFenster format of temporary presentations on Zurich-related topics, the Turicensia Lounge’s reference library offers excerpts from the collection of Turicensia. These include titles about the canton and city of Zurich as well as media by authors from Zurich: fiction, non-fiction, games and much more. There are also local and regional newspapers and magazines.

March to May 2016. In Zurich, a group of writers in exile set out to engage with the destructive force of the First World War. They gave birth to the Dada movement, which spread out from the city into the wider world and influences culture practitioners to this day.
